I first met the Equals way back in the early 1980's. We had the samemanagement company so I often use to see Pat Lloyd in the office.  I remember sitting in on some recording sessions with the guys and there was great excitement when 'Funky Like A Train' enjoyed a shock visit to the charts.

At one point I was invited to join the Equals. I was very keen to accept but my manager blocked it. He wanted me to concentrate on songwriting and recording.

Later on when I  was rehearsing with the Kinks in 1989 I used to stay at Pat's pub over in Hackney Wick

The Equals were very popular band where I lived in Lincolnshire as they were the regular house band at the Gliderdrome venue in Boston. Just a few minutes drive from where I lived.
