It's become a showbiz tradition that on the last night of a tour...anything goes !

The Monkees UK tour of 1989 had reached it's final venue...Reading.
Everybody had something planned. The most elaborate was my brother Lawrie being convincingly transformed into Mike Nesmith bobble hat and all.Half way through the opening number 'Last Train To Clarkville' he bounded out onto the stage (picture) and literally raised the roof of the auditorium. For a few seconds the good people of Reading truly believed that the heir to Liquid Paper was making an impromptu return to the ranks. The penny dropped when they saw the three genuine Monkees laughing their heads off.
Those of you who saw the show around that time will remember Micky singing 'She'.During the song he would look towards the heavens and stretch his arm dramatically to the right.
At this point my brother Lawrie (still kitted out as Mike Nesmith) would normally step forward into the limelight and thrust a microphone stand into Micky's hand.
Not tonight...During the tour we had enjoyed several games of tennis on our days off.I suggested to Lawrie, that it may be amusing if he substituted the microphone stand with his Wilson tennis racket.
He duly did, sticking it firmly into the circus boys hand making sure he had a tight grip.As Micky turned round to continue his heartfelt plea to the girl in the song, the realisation that he was stood in front of a sold out crowd holding a tennis racket dawned on him. To give him his due, he managed to compose himself by the end of the song. They were good sports them Monkees...
If any body out there has a picture of Micky from that night with Tennis Racket proudly held aloft, I and a lot of other people would love to see it.
